Five, four, three, two, one…Happy New Year!
That’s another Christmas to add to the memories! I feel really blessed to be able to say it was a wonderful one.
And already, as I set out for my Boxing Day walk yesterday, I found myself thinking ahead to the new year and what I’d like to be able to look back on a year from now.
For me, a new year is a bit like Spring. It’s an opportunity for setting some new goals and turning ideas into reality.
The one thing that I will say about the goals that I like to set for myself at this stage of my life, is that they are fun, varied, interesting, and I know they will challenge me enough to keep me on my toes.
Because that’s the thing about goals, or life plans, or whatever you prefer to call them. They need to grab your interest, fuel your passions, fulfill your sense of purpose and scare you just a little bit. That way, you’ll stick with them, and adjust when needed, especially if the going gets a bit tough and you start to doubt yourself. And you’ll feel a deep sense of pride and satisfaction once you achieve them and the ‘along the way’ milestones you set yourself.
And goals that you can identify as stepping stones to a larger ambition, be it about career, life, or a particular skill set, will hold real meaning and value for you – there’s nothing like noticing those blurry dreams become a more focused reality.
Goals that are routine, easy, and you could do them in your sleep are never going to be the ones that make you jump up and out of bed in the morning with enthusiasm and purpose. Those will be the ones you’ll vaguely remember come November next year, and will dismiss with a muttered ‘what’s the point’.
And of course, if you would like help to get clarity, focus and momentum, feel free to get in touch.
Wishing you a new year filled with possibilities and your version of success.
