Do you consider yourself creative? Creative in what way?
I’m not necessarily talking about painting, crafting or gardening, though I personally think it’s important to have some sort of creative outlet away from work.
I’m talking about creative thinking at work. Your ability to come up with creative new ideas, innovative solutions, outside the box strategies, compelling communication, to make connections of seemingly unrelated concepts, see and embrace the bigger picture, as well as being able to question your assumptions and stay open-minded and curious.
According to this Forbes article (see link at the bottom of this post) by Rachel Wells, “Approximately 73% of organizations surveyed in the World Economic Forum’s Future of Jobs Survey [2023] reported that creative thinking skills was a top priority for them when considering talent as we move into the future, agreeing that this skill set is increasing in relevance and importance.”
And that includes analytical thinking skills too.
The writer then goes on to explain that creative thinking skills are needed for career development, adapting to change (and we all know change is a constant in life that unsettles many of us), it gives competitive advantage (so vital for long term survival of businesses in today’s VUCA world), it’s an important element of having a growth mindset, AND it can’t be replaced by AI.
