“I am not a product of my circumstances. I am a product of my decisions.” — Stephen R. Covey.
Macro decisions. Micro decisions. Or something in between.
Our days are filled with making decisions.
Some of them we work really hard at. We gather facts, data, opinions, perspectives, we add our own into the mix. And then we decide and act.
Some of them are more effortless and automatic: What time to set the alarm for. Turning the tap off after washing our hands.
Some of our decisions end up shaping our day: I’ll be positive and kind today. I’m going for a walk at sunrise.
Some end up shaping our life: I’m going to be a doctor. I’m won’t allow others to put me down. I’m going to keep learning. I’m changing my career.
And some can shape other people’s lives: I’m going to shout in a meeting. I’m going to volunteer for a charity. I’m going to be a teacher.
When the world is so uncertain, when so much feels out of our control, it can be easy to feel like a victim, helpless and fearful.
We feel carried along, voiceless and powerless.
Whether we realise it in the moment or not, feeling like a victim is a choice. Feeling helpless and fearful is a choice. Not using our voice is a choice.
In the hard moments of life, we can forget just how resourceful, creative and powerful we are.
That we can choose to stand for our own autonomy.
And choose to decide what we need for ourselves. As an individual, a family, a team.
We all have the power to consciously and intentionally pause, reassess, and make the decisions that are right for us.
And then step in that direction.
Alone or together. That too is a choice.
I wish you a day of making decisions that are right for you.
