Another Wednesday, another week closer to a brand new year! So here’s a sprinkling of wisdom to get us thinking about what we want to get out of the new year.
How often do you make a wish?
When we have birthdays, we may blow out our candles and make a wish.
Or maybe we throw coins into a fountain.
Or wish upon a bright star in the sky.
I remember when I was a kid and my mum was taking roasted chicken off the bone, we’d pull the wish-bone together, and whoever ‘won’ the ‘wish’ side of the bone got to make a wish.
Whatever I wished for back then, and any wish I’ve made since, I’m pretty sure none of them have come true.
At least not without some careful planning, big effort and focused execution on my part, sometimes accompanied by a lot of sweat and occasionally a lot of tears.
Because that’s the thing. A wish on its own will not, sadly, miraculously become reality, no matter what our favourite Disney character tells us.
It still takes our passion, courage, grit and determination to turn our greatest wishes into reality.
And then there’s no stopping us.
So, what’s on your New Year Wish List that you’re prepared to put your back into and stick with when the going gets tough, to make it come true?
What behaviour choices are you making?
We should first look to ourselves – how WE show up, how people experience US, and what impact WE have on the team.
