Wow, I love this proverb!
The Doers and the Doubters!
Which one are you on a typical day?
Because when life feels like it’s working against you all the time, like nothing’s going your way, like you’re stuck, it’s easy to fall into the Doubters’ camp.
To question, to hesitate, to delay making a decision, to stand on the sidelines, to be skeptical and resistant.
The vibe becomes ‘Why bother, it’s not like it’ll change anything’, or ‘Well, that’s never gonna work, we may as well give up now.’
And, to rub your face in it, a few desks down from where you sit, there’s That Person who always seems to land with their butt in the butter. And you resent them, call them names, roll your eyes at them, maybe say things like ‘well, their face fits and mine doesn’t.’
So what is it Doers are doing and being that Doubters aren’t?
A Doer comes from a place of curiosity, of positivity and hope, of belief in themselves, in others, in the task, and have the willingness to give it a go.
They act, initiate, make proactive decisions and go after what they believe in.
They move themselves forward, they find a way, they have a bigger incentive to motivate them, a North Star to guide them or a belief in the outcome.
They don’t fear failure, they relish a challenge, and they roll with the punches.
They collaborate, co-operate, and learn and teach, and in so doing build trusting relationships as well as their competence and their confidence.
They get a mentor or a coach, they reflect, explore and talk things through, and as a result they overcome blockers and find a way round.
So, once again, which one are you on a typical day? Is it working for you?
What behaviour choices are you making?
We should first look to ourselves – how WE show up, how people experience US, and what impact WE have on the team.
