Disappointment. We’ve all experienced it at some point in our lives.
Where what we’d hoped for didn’t happen because our hopes weren’t based on the reality of the situation.
This Inc. article by Justin Bariso sums it up perfectly, I think, using the German word Enttäuschung (pronounced ent-TOY-shung).
Bariso explains that, in English, it translates directly to ‘disappointment’, but when broken down more literally, it translates as:
Ent(fernen) = Remove
Täuschung = Illusion
Remove the illusion.
I love it! And it’s so much clearer and action-based than the word ‘disappointment’!
Once the illusion is removed, and you’re faced with the reality, you can then make new choices based on that reality. Choices that move you forward.
It means you’re leading yourself and creating your own future and success.
And that is far more empowering than living in a haze of unrealistic hope and expectation, waiting for others to act on your behalf.
